Session 49

Sunday, 8 November 2026

About this session
This presentation explores the psychological dynamics of maternal enmeshment and their potential influence on biological gender embodiment and identity development. Drawing on family systems and attachment theories, Christiana Davidson examines how difficulties in separation and individuation may be reinforced through triangulation, shame, guilt, and patterns of emotional control. The session considers how these dynamics can affect the development of autonomy, embodied selfhood, and relational functioning. Through clinical reflection and case illustration, therapeutic implications for addressing enmeshment and supporting healthy differentiation are discussed. The presentation is intended to encourage professional dialogue, and further research.
